The 2018 tourist season in Phuket opens with The Phuket Harmony World Puppet Festival 2018. Phuket, a place recognised by travellers across the world as a target destination. The beginning of November every year marks the official start of the tourist season. In particular Patong Beach will begin the season with Phuket Carnival at Patong, from the 1st of November onward. 2018 is special, because this year’s tourist season coincides with the arrival of a world class festival, The Phuket Harmony World Puppet Festival 2018. This is a festival with a global reputation derived from previous years’ incarnations. Puppet troupes from around the world will come together to perform in a great variety to dazzle the eyes and capture the hearts of Thai people and foreigners alike. This festival has been held in Thailand to great acclaim in the area around Sanam Luang, and is regarded as a cultural event that people look forward to attending. This year the festival is being held in Phuket with a unique design that reflects the area and differentiates it from other years. This year’s festival incorporates two design themes: Puppets On The Beach and Puppet Street Shows. The performance events of 2 November commence with Puppets On The Beach, located at Patong Beach. The international puppet troupes will then be introduced at a grand Welcome Ceremony at Jungceylon shopping complex, accompanied by captivating performances. 3 - 4 November will feature activities on Thalang Road, with a colourful, eye-catching World Puppet Parade consisting of over 50 puppet troupes from Thailand and abroad, bringing the public into close contact with the puppets. Stages set up at Chalerm Prakiat 72 Pansa Park, the Hai Leng Dragon Monument, and in front of The Thaihua Museum, along with 4 street performance zones will hold performances from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. All performances are free of charge. Highlights not to be missed include a carnival style production from Russia, the oldest shadow puppet performance on Earth from India, and workshops and demonstrations of Chinese puppetry from Taiwan which gave birth to the Hoon Galei marionettes of Phuket. เทศกาลหุ่นโลกภูเก็ต 2561 PHUKET HARMONY WORLD PUPPET FESTIVAL 2018 1 - 5 November, 2018 at Patong and Thalang Road In addition to this there will be hard-to-find Thai puppetry, such as Hoon Luang (Royal Puppets), the oldest form of authentic Thai puppetry which dates back to The Ayutthaya Period, Nang and Talung shadow puppets of The South by National Artists competing with each other every evening; as well as enjoyable shopping, and delicious dining in one of UNESCO’s Cities of Gastronomy.
